Amazon Announces $50B Investment in U.S. Government AI and Supercomputing Infrastructure
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) unveiled plans to invest up to $50 billion in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure tailored for U.S. government needs. The initiative, spearheaded by Amazon Web Services (AWS), aims to deploy 1.3 gigawatts of secure compute capacity across classified and unclassified cloud platforms, including AWS Top Secret, AWS Secret, and AWS GovCloud.
The expansion aligns with national security priorities, enabling federal agencies to leverage advanced AI tools and rapid data processing capabilities. AWS CEO Matt Garman emphasized the strategic timing of the investment, noting that tasks previously requiring weeks can now be completed in hours. Amazon's stock ROSE 2.13% to $225.57 following the announcement.
